AFFI Honor Guard

To Form a Formation, Slight Change of Direction, To Change Direction

To Form a Formation- For this movement, there is no preparatory command.  On the command of
execution of "Fall In" the first Drill Captain will find the far right, front corner of the flight.  Each
member (except the last guard member in each squad) extends the left arm laterally, at shoulder height,
with the palm down and fingers extended and joined, thumb along the forefinger.  At the same time you
raise your left arm (except, second, third and fourth squad leaders), turn your head and eyes 45' to
the right with snap.  Take small steps to adjust position so your right shoulder is touching the extended
fingertips of the person on the right.  Check your position for proper dress with the person on your right.
Members of the second, third, and fourth squads will cover on the first squad.  Your fingertips may or
may not touch the shoulder of the member to the left.  If necessary, place your extended hand behind
the shoulder of the guard member on your left.  As soon as proper dress and interval is obtained, drop
your arm to your side simultaneously turning your head and eyes to the front without receiving a command,
assuming the position of attention.  There is no preparatory command for "Fall Out."  On the command
of execution "Fall Out," you may break ranks, but you are not dismissed.

Slight Change of Direction- There is no preparatory command for this movement.  On the command
of execution, "Incline to the Right (Left)," the leading element move in the indicated direction.  The
rest of the unit follows.  There is no pivot in this movement.

To Change Direction in a Column, At Close Interval, to the Right/Left- The preparatory command
is "Column Right (Left)" and the command of execution is "March."  On Command of execution
"March" the fourth (first) squad leader takes one full 30-inch step and pivots 90' to the right (left) on
the ball of the left (right) foot.  Suspend arm swing during pivot.  Take one 30-inch step with coordinated
arm swing and pick up the half step.  Each succeeding member marches to pivot point established by the
squad leader and performs the same procedure the squad leader performed.  The third (second) squad
leader on command of execution takes one full 30-inch step and pivots 45' to the right (left) on the ball of
the left (right) foot; take two 15-inch steps, pivot right (left) then begin half step.  Maintain coordinated
arm swing.  Each succeeding member marches to pivot point established by squad leader and performs the
same procedure as the squad leader.  The second (third) squad leader upon command of execution takes
one full 30-inch step and pivots 45' to the right (left) on the left (right) foot; takes two 30-inch steps, pivot
45' to the right (left) and maintain 30-inch steps until even with the guard member who marches on your
right (left) then begin half step.  Maintain coordinated arm swing.  Each succeeding member marches to
pivot point established by squad leader and performs same procedure as squad leader.  Interval and
distance must be reestablished before Forward, March will be given.  Dress is to the fourth squad on
the command "Right" and to the first squad on command "Left."  Your dress remains in this direction
until given the command "March" of "Forward, March" at which time it remains to or reverts to the
base file.  Cover is the responsibility of each member.  Interval (four inches) is established by squad
leaders.  Distance is established by the base file.  For the command of  "Forward, March," the
preparatory command is "Forward" and the command of execution is "March."  On the command of
execution take one more 15-inch step then step off in full 30-inch steps.

To Change Direction in a Column, At Normal Interval, to the Right Left- The preparatory
command is "Column Right (Left) and Forward."  The command of execution is "March."
On the command of execution the fourth (first) squad leader takes one 30-inch step, and pivots 90'
to the right (left) on the ball of the left (right) foot.  Arm swing is suspended during pivot.  Take
one more 30-inch step and pick up the half step.  Each succeeding member marches to the pivot
point established by the squad leader and performs the same procedure as the squad leader.  The
third (second) squad leader takes one 30-inch step and pivots 45' to the right (left) on the ball of
the left (right) foot; then takes two 30-inch steps and pivots 45' to the right (left) on the ball of the
left (right) foot.  Coordinated arm swing must be maintained.  Maintain 30-inch steps until even with
the member who marches on your right (left) then begin half step.  Each succeeding member
marches to the pivot point established by the squad leader and performs the same procedure as
the squad leader.  The second (third) squad leader takes one more 30-inch step and pivots 45'
to the right (left) on the ball of the left (right) foot, then takes four 30-inch steps and pivots 45' to
the right (left) on the ball of the left (right) foot.  Maintain coordinated arm swing.  Maintain 30-inch
steps until even with the guard member who marches on your right (left) then begin the half step.
Each succeeding member marches to the pivot point established by the squad leader and performs
the same procedures as the squad leader.  The first (fourth) squad leader takes one more 30-inch
step and pivots 45' to the right (left) on the ball of the left (right) foot; then takes six 30-inch steps
and pivots 45' to the right (left) on the ball of the left (right) foot.  Maintain coordinated arm swing.
Maintain 30-inch steps until even with the guard member who marches on your right (left) then begin
the half step.  Each succeeding member marches to the pivot point established by the squad leader
and performs the same procedures as the squad leader.  Take six 30-inch steps and pivot 45' to
the left again on the ball of the right foot.  Dress is to the fourth squad on the command "Right"
of "Column Right."
Dress is to the first squad on the command "Left" of "Column Left."
It  stays there until given the command "March" of "Forward, March," the preparatory
command is "Forward" and the command of execution is "March."  On command of
execution "March" everyone takes one more 15-inch step and then steps off with full 30-inch
steps.  See figure below:

Partial Change of Direction to the Right/Left- The preparatory command is "Column Half Right
(Left),"
and the command of execution is "March."  You must be either marching or halted at the
position of attention, in column formation at normal or closed interval, at the cadence of quick time.
On the command of execution, the fourth (first) squad leader takes one 30-inch step and pivots 45' to
the right (left) on the ball of the left (right) foot.  Then take one more 30-inch step and take up the half
step.  Resume the 30-inch step and establish proper distance when all members of your rank are abreast
and half stepping.  Each squad member executes the movement in approximately the same location and in
the same manner as the individual in front of them.
When this movement is executed from a halt, the squad leaders start the movement by executing a half
face in marching to the left (right).  Without changing the interval, the squad leaders advance one 30-inch
step and take up the half step until they are all abreast of the base squad leader.  When abreast of the
base squad leader, conform to his or her step.  The rest of the flight marches to the pivot point established
by the squad leaders and pivots 45' to the left (right), advances one 30-inch step, and takes up the half
step until all members of your rank are abreast and half stepping.  When all members of each rank are
abreast without receiving a command, members should step off with a full 30-inch step, then establish
dress and cover.
